Animation

Here we go with the video of the week section where I bring to you a great inspirational video found on internet throughout the work week, it could be a motion graphics or an animation, 2d or 3d, even a trailer or music video with some great design or animation techniques.

For this week I bring to you the latest film produced by Tim Burton, who if you don’t know is an American film director, producer, writer and artist. He is famous for his dark and quirky films, such as Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, and some other films directed by, like Batman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

For this year he comes with a 3d animation movie, and like everything he does has a uniqueness all his own, and the 9 movie is no different. Even though Tim Burton is only producing, the style and feel has his name on it.

If you can’t see the trailer click here.

9 Movie Synopsis

9 is a post-apocalyptic nightmare in which all of humanity is threatened. 9 is based on Acker’s Academy Award-nominated 2005 film festival short.

“When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. The human race is dead and gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.”

You didn’t mention the music – I find the music to be very compelling as well. I generally cannot stand Tim Burton’s movies but this one looks like a winner.

A few years ago I saw Shane Acker’s short film titled ‘9′ and thought it would make a great feature. The main difference is that the short is dialogue-less, which makes for a more ethereal, surreal canvas for the story. Have a look:

All in all, I can’t wait for this film! Spread the word.

@Andres: It looks really awesome, me too I’m exited about it.

@Barbara: Music is a rule in the Tim Burton Movies, I love the one from Bettle Juice.

@ratigan: yes It was and excellent short, I Think it was destined to go really far, and yes is dialogue-less but is evident, during 10m is easier to keep the public interested only with the scenario and the visual elements, but for 100m or more(i don’t know how much longer it will be the film) you must set up a good dialogue based.
